What drives you – criticism or complements?

What drives you – criticism or complements?

We listen to our thoughts all of the time.

Notice your thoughts – if you were to pay real close attention to your thoughts – go ahead and close your eyes, notice your inner dialogue. Are your thoughts supportive and in alignment with your idea of happiness and in pursuit of your goals? Or are they more criticizing and full of judgment? What are you listening to? What drives you – criticism or complements?

Last evening I had the opportunity of teaching a class where I suggested each person scan their thoughts – noticing what they generally listen to and I asked them to share their results. Most reported they listen to the negative.

And ... there wasn't a one who would be OK with someone else talking to them the way they talk to themselves.

The thoughts we listen to are the thoughts that manifests our reality.

Imagine your desk is a mess, piled with papers – a bit much huh? With a cleared desk you feel more productive. Use this analogy – close your eyes and gather all your thoughts, putting them in a room and closing the door. (You’ll be able to open the door any time and retrieve any of those thoughts.) The space they once filled is now open. Focus on your breath. Say to yourself ‘focus on my breath’ when the thoughts appear, send them to that room and continue to focus on your breath ... you might even notice the silence, peace, and perhaps a response from God.

Initially, this exercise might seem really difficult and a challenge to experience. Two seconds without the chatter/thoughts going on is a huge accomplishment; with practice it enables you to enjoy this quietness from your thoughts longer. Each day of practice develops an inner strength of power to change your life.
You are the only one who has the power to change your thoughts... may they be ones to move you towards peace, happiness and success!
